Willis Raburu undergoes Weight loss Surgery; Gastric Bypass at Nairobi Bariatric Center.

By NBC
  • Before the surgery, he weighed 164kg, which came down to 150kg in a month and he noted that his food intake had also gone down.
  • According to Willis having high blood pressure and cholesterol plus numerous trials at the gym without success contributed to him deciding to go the surgery route to work on his weight loss journey.

Willis Raburu underwent Gastric Bypass surgery earlier this year at Nairobi Bariatric Center. He revealed part of his journey in a recent interview and here is what he had to say.

“I went for a gastric bypass. By the time I was going for the surgery I was 164kgs. I needed it because my blood pressure was high, my cholesterol was high. It was now a matter of taking care of my health because now I had a junior and also just for myself,” he said.

“You have to love yourself enough to know that you need help and there is no shame in it by the way. Because people always attach such procedures to shame. It is expensive but the gains are evident. If you pay whatever you pay now and in the future let’s say if I was to get, God forbid a heart attack, the money I would pay in hospital just for three days and you getting proper care, you burn out money very fast,” he added.

According to Raburu, paying for the surgery as opposed to treating some illness contributed by his weight was cheaper, and the method he chose was permanent. After the surgery, his weight came down to 150kg, and he said even his food intake had also reduced.
